MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte is aching to be a fascist dictator like the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos as proven by his decision to cancel the peace talks with the communist rebels, Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria Sison said yesterday.
“As a President in a rush to become a fascist dictator, he expects to have limitless opportunities for bureaucratic corruption like his idol Marcos, especially in overprice infrastructure projects, government purchases and cheap sale of raw materials,” Sison said in statement released by the National Democratic Front (NDF).
Duterte on Friday ordered the cancellation of the talks after rebel negotiators reportedly insisted on forming a coalition government. The President said the proposal was “pure nonesense.”
“Duterte does mind being proven a big liar on the question of coalition government. He thinks that he can move on from success to success at political swindling. Now, he is being carried away by his obsession to establish a fascist dictatorship through charter change under the pretext of adopting a pseudo-federal system under his over centralized despotism and terrorism,” Sison said.
He said Duterte reneged on his campaign promise of forming a coalition government with the left and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
“To prove that Duterte is a big liar on the question of coalition government, I call the attention of the Filipino people to the following news links,” Sison said citing several news reports.
Sison added Duterte failed on his promise to rid the country of illegal drugs saying the drug problem is still around after almost two years and has even gone worse.
“This is because his family is involved in large-scale drug smuggling and his regime protects the biggest drug lords and protectors at the level of governments and generals, while engaging in the mass murder of more than 14,000 poor suspected drug users and pushers,” he said.
Sison also criticized Duterte for his failure to addressing corruption in the government. He also accused the President of amassing great amount of undeclared wealth by collecting huge campaign funds from 2014 to 2016. – Jose Rodel Clapano
