MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte’s recent claims on an alleged ouster plot against him are just meant to divert public attention from the issues he is supposed to face, the founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines said Sunday.
Speaking to ANC, Jose Maria Sison said Duterte should be worried about losing support among the public because of the problems he has failed to address, like the rising inflation that has neared a 10-year high last month.
“Pinakamalawak na concern ng tao ‘yung pagbulusok ng ekonomiya, lalo na sa anyo ng pagtaas ng mga presyo ng mga bilihin na nagpapahirap sa mayorya ng mga Filipino,” said the communist leader.
(The main concern of the people is the falling economy, particularly the rising prices of commodities, which is making life hard for the majority of the Filipinos.)
“Dapat si Duterte, kaysa mas worried siya kaysa sa Liberal Party, kay Trillanes, sa Partido Komunista, mas worried siya na ‘yung mga dating sumusunod sa kanya, umaalis na sa kanya. Ang natitira na lang sa kanya, ang kanyang mga bayarang troll,” he added.
(Instead of the Liberal Party, Trillanes, and the Communist Party, Duterte should be worried about losing support. The only ones left with him are his paid trolls.)
Duterte on Saturday urged the public to watch out for his critics’ supposed move to oust him, which he said will “go into a high gear” in October. He accused the Liberal Party (LP) of being behind the plan, with the help of communists and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
The LP already denied these claims, calling them “downright false” and “ridiculous.” Senator Francis Pangilinan, LP president, said the administration “is doing a good job of destabilizing itself” through its supposed incompetence or corruption.
“It is ridiculous. Dissent is not destabilization,” Pangilinan said. “Every time scandals and controversies hound this administration, whether it be corruption issues or issues of incompetent governance, it blames the opposition.”
Trillanes has also denied Duterte’s claims, saying the President’s pronouncements were a product of paranoia. “Guni-guni niya iyan sa kaniyang utak kasi paranoid na siya,” Trillanes said in a brief chat with reporters.
(That is a hallucination because he’s already paranoid.)
