MANILA – Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria Sison said Wednesday he was willing to return home once peace negotiators approve a comprehensive agreement on social and economic reforms.

The agreement will be a big advancement in the negotiations, which will also prove the government’s sincerity, Sison told ANC’s Early Edition.

“If the two panels manage to agree on these and sign the proper documents then that would be a good basis for me to go home, and also my comrades and lawyers will have to be satisfied too with legal and security precautions,” he said.

Sison said the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte must also drop its petition before a Manila court to declare communists and some of their peace consultants as terrorists.

“If the Duterte government is really sincere in moving the peace negotiations forward, the problem about obstacles and hindrances arising from the termination of peace negotiations, that should be easy to handle,” he said.

Duterte had set a 60-day time frame for the revival of peace negotiations. He also invited the Sison to come home from exile in the Netherlands to help hammer out the deal.

Sison said he was confident that both peace panels could beat the President’s 2-month deadline.
