Sison urged Duterte to “sober up” and let the government peace panel negotiate with the NDFP for lasting peace in the country.

Communist Party of the Philippines, CPP, Chairman Jose Maria Sison said on Friday that he would return to his country and fight the government of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte if needed.

“If deemed necessary by the revolutionary movement, I will return to the Philippines to fight the Duterte puppet regime of U.S. imperialism … I choose the battlefield where I fight and the types of battles that I wage,” Sison said in a Facebook post.

“This cannot be dictated by Duterte who hopes vainly that U.S. and European intelligence would tip him off as soon I leave The Netherlands for the Philippines.”

Sison also pointed out that he doesn’t have to prove his “revolutionary will and courage to wage armed struggle against oppression” once again.

“I was an active part of the people’s war against (former dictator Ferdinand) Marcos for nine years, 1969 to 1977, and then went to fascist prison for another nine years,” Sison said.

“I surpass the field record of many reactionary military officers who are in the field for a few years until they are assigned desk jobs and then retire at the age of 56.”

These remarks came after Duterte criticized the exiled leader at the wake of six police officers who were killed during an operation in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, central Philippines.

“If you are truly a revolutionary leader, my God, come home and fight here,” Duterte said in an interview on Thursday.

He also criticized Sison for living “the good life” in The Netherlands while members of the New People’s Army, NPA, struggle in the Philippines. The NPA is the revolutionary armed wing of the CPP.

The Duterte government cancelled all forms of talks this week with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines, NDFP, due to attacks launched by suspected members of the NPA against government forces.

Sison urged Duterte to “sober up” and let the government peace panel negotiate with the NDFP for lasting peace in the country.

“At any rate, I must remind Duterte that we are well past the age of retirement in the NPA and the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” Sison said.

“At his ripe old age of 72, he should not try to project an image of a strutting young fighter at my expense.”
